Navigating messages in CIX Forums

The main benefit of using a system like CIX Forums, lies in the way it keeps track of what you have read and what you have not. This lets you better follow complex threads over an extended period of time.

Basic navigation

Unread messages appear in blue in CIX Forums, read messages in grey and messages posted by yourself appear in red.

The best way to navigate through messages is by using the cursor keys on your keyboard.

  • use [right arrow] to go to the next unread message in a thread (or from pretty much anywhere in the system)
  • use [up arrow] to move up the thread
  • use [down arrow] to move down the thread
  • use [left arrow] to go back through the messages in the thread in the order you just read them

Priority messages

Since some messages and forums will often be more important than others. CIX Forums has a concept called priority messages. Priority messages are either:-

  • messages in a thread that you have commented in
  • messages in a forum that you have marked as priority

To navigate through your priority messages use the 'p' key to find the next thread containing unread priority messages.

Starred messages

If you've read a message, but want to mark it so that you can easily find it again. Use the star button or click on the star next to the title of the message in the thread pane. This adds the message to your starred list which you can view by clicking on the “Starred” menu option beneath “Alerts” on the left hand menu.
